Freeways a Provider of Choice
Charlotte Burrough - Support worker
Best bit about your job?
Worst bit?
I would like to spend more quality time with the people I work with but given the number of people the team have to support that is not always possible.
Where will you be in five years?
Freeways is a good place to work so hopefully I will still be with Freeways. There is the opportunity to progress and take on wider responsibilities and move into supervisory and management posts and this does interest me.
Advice for anyone wanting to do your job?
If you are a people person go for it its worth it and you'll enjoy it. It really is a very satisfying job. Try and visit a service and meet the staff and residents.
How did you get the job?
Although I have not done this work previously its something I thought about for a while. I wrote a letter to Freeways and I was invited in for a careers chat which led to an interview. I liked the house, the manager saw something in me and rest is history.
Any perks? (training, flexibility)
I get an awful lot of training and I get access to a level 3 qualification. There is also a lot of flexibility if I need time off for example.
For new staff the comprehensive LDQ program leads into NVQ opportunities for staff.
What did you want to be when you were young?
Day care support worker - because of my mum. She is a qualified nurse who works as a support worker and loves her job which sort of inspired me.
