Winners at the Care and Support West Awards 2017

17th October, 2017

The supported living service for South Glos and Bristol were finalists in the Care and Support West Awards 2017.  The event took place on Saturday 15th October at Ashton Gate and we are so pleased to announce that the SL Service team won the Supported Living Team Award. Well done Louise Whybrow, Sally Palmer, Tracy Peacock and Esther Kopp!

Pat had terminal cancer and because of the work the team had done with him and the safeguards and support they put in place for him he was able to stay at home for as long as possible and continue to do activities that were really important to him like look after his own money. For Pat this also meant that he was able to pass away at home.

"As you can see from the smiles on Louise, Sally and Tracy’s faces (from the pictures below) they were delighted to win the award and were sad that their colleague, Esther, could not attend. None of them could quite believe that they had won.

One of the ladies said: ‘I don’t think we’re going to win, it’s what everyone does, isn’t it?’

After winning one said: ‘It’s just so nice to be appreciated and recognised’.

"Freeways haven’t always been at the forefront for putting our staff through for external awards such as this, because we do not think we do anything that anyone else wouldn’t do.

This year the SMT have put through three nominations to two different award events and out of those three, two have been put through as finalists. To me this says that the staff of Freeways are worth more than a pat of the back and a well done!

I think it’s about time we started to shout about the exceptional support that we give to our service users and have it recognised. The SMT do not always get to see or hear the great work that staff members do and anyone can put through a nomination." - CEO Claire Hayward

This award certaintly highlights the great support we give to our service users, so well done again to the Supported Living Team; what an outstanding achievment to be very proud of.
